Glassdoor has revealed that 40% of UK employees used just half of their annual leave entitlement last year.

The results, which were generated from 2,000 full and part-time employed adults, further revealed that 23% of those on holiday regularly checked their emails and 15% continued working out of fear of being behind on their return.

Young workers were the least likely to take their full holiday entitlement; just 35% of 18-24 year olds and 40% of 25-34 year olds used their full allowance.

Whilst half of employees (50%) said they were able to fully kick back and relax on holiday, 20% reported that they were expected to be contactable on holiday and have the resources available to carry out some work if needed.

The fact that 40% of people use only half of their annual leave allowance and a significant number feel the need to work whilst being away must ring alarm bells for employers. Are these workers more likely to jump ship?
